A Fresh Perspective on Your Metabolism—from a FIERCE Connection
You know I love when the universe sends me the right people at the right time—and recently, I had the joy of meeting Bev Mazza, a fellow FIERCE woman, nurse, and expert in integrative and functional health. We immediately connected over our shared passion for personalized, empowering health strategies—and one topic that lit us both up? Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs).
So I asked her to write something for our tribe. Because let’s be honest—we’ve all been there: doing “all the right things” with our nutrition and workouts… but still feeling off, stuck, or frustrated. If that’s you, this tool might be the next right step in your journey.

Why Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) Are Becoming the “Go-To” Tool for Personalized Metabolic Health
By Beverly Mazza, BSN, RN, NC-BC | Purely Present Health
Â
Glucose is one of the most informative and underutilized markers of metabolic health. It plays a central role in how we regulate energy, weight, focus, and mood, yet most people only see a fraction of the picture through annual lab work. A fasting glucose or A1C may fall within range, but that doesn’t necessarily mean glucose regulation is optimal.
Â
As a nurse with a focus on integrative and functional health, I work with many women who are already invested in their wellbeing. They’re exercising regularly, making thoughtful nutrition choices, and staying engaged with their goals. Yet they may still find themselves frustrated when progress stalls and the guidance they receive feels too generic.
Â
I find that many women are seeking personalized, strategic support. They value data that reflects their unique physiology and want clarity to guide their next steps with more precision.
This is where continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) come in.
Â
A CGM is a small sensor worn on the back of the arm that tracks glucose in real time and sends readings to an app on your phone. It shows how your body responds to meals, movement, sleep, and stress throughout the entire day and night. Rather than relying on occasional tests, a CGM provides a dynamic, continuous view of how your lifestyle choices are impacting your glucose patterns.
While CGMs are commonly used for insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, or diabetes, many women track for other reasons to better understand how glucose fluctuations may be contributing to weight gain, mood changes, low energy, cravings, or even headaches. It’s a way to connect the dots between everyday symptoms and what’s happening metabolically beneath the surface.
Â
CGMs help identify patterns such as post-meal spikes, reactive glucose drops, or cortisol-driven elevations. Even with “normal” labs, these fluctuations can influence how the body stores fat, builds muscle, or regulates hunger and fullness.
Â
What sets CGMs apart is their ability to guide personalized strategies. For example, we might see that a certain breakfast consistently leads to elevated glucose through mid-morning, or that a short walk after dinner improves overnight readings. We may discover that sleep quality or emotional stress is having just as much impact as food. These insights help us refine nutrition, movement, and recovery in a way that’s specific to your body, not based on generic rules.
Â
At Purely Present Health, I use CGMs as part of a personalized approach to health optimization. I work with women who want to make sense of their glucose data and apply it in ways that support long-term goals like weight loss, hormone balance, improved mood, and sustained energy. By combining real-time feedback with clinical nursing insight and coaching, we build a strategy that fits both your physiology and your lifestyle.
When we have the right tools, we move from guessing to understanding to strategic action!
